About Us

Airedale Terrier

The Airedale Terrier breed was originated in the the Valley of the Aire, which is situated in West Riding, sometime in the mid 1800s. The largest of the terrier breeds the Airedale terrier is believed to be a mix of the old english rough coated Black and Tan Terrier with the Otterhound, perhaps with some collie thrown in for good measure, according to some.

The Airedale Terrier was originally bred up to be a hunting dog for the average factory worker. Otter hunting was in fashion at the time but at the time it required a pack of expensive otter hounds and a terrier or two. The Airedale terrier is the result of taking the qualities of a pack of dogs and distilling it into a single breed. The result is the strong and versatile dog that is the Airedale terrier.

Teddy Roosevelt was quite fond of the Airedale terrier breed and described the Airedale as the breed that can "do anything any other dog can do, and then lick the other dog, if he has to." The Airedale was an exceedingly popular dog at the beginning of the 1900s and were used extensively in World War One to carry messages to soldiers behind enemy lines and in the trenches. They were also used to find wounded soldiers on the battlefield. The courage and steadfast character of the Airedale in the face of danger was legendary. There are many tales of Airedales delivering their messages despite having suffered terrible injury.

The Airedale Terrier has been used for many different jobs. They have been used track game like a hound, find and flush like a spaniel, and bring birds to hand like a retriever. As an all-round farm dog the Airedale catches vermin, herds livestock, and guards the homestead. The Long before German shepherds became the preferred breed, Airedale terrier was one of the first breeds trained for police work. Airedales have been trained for Search and Rescue or as service dogs for the disabled. They visit hospitals as therapy dogs. . Not every Airedale excels in every area but over time many have done a variety of duties very well.

We have some good friends about the world. Some of them have recently started producing "Pet Stones." Pet Stones are jewelry that you clip to your Pup's collar that are made from gems & minerals that have a folk history of healing capabilities.
